Bejeweled 3, game menu description

Quest is a game mode in most versions of Bejeweled 3. It does not exist in the mobile version of Bejeweled Classic, the Java version of Bejeweled 3 and Bejeweled Live +. Quest, unlike other modes, involves playing several mini-games known as quests, to recover five lost relics that have been darkened over time.

In the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Bejeweled 3, the icon that represents Quest in the game menu is a crown.

Gameplay

Quest is different from the other game modes in Bejeweled 3, as it takes place in a shrine that houses five large artifacts called the Lost Relics of Bejeweled. According to the Bejeweled 3 README file, the Relics were darkened by time, causing them to appear as transparent objects with shimmering outlines. The objective is to restore the artifacts by completing various mini-games called mini-quests.

When the player accesses Quest Mode for the first time, only the first Relic and all its mini-quests are available. Completing at least four of an artifact's mini-quests unlocks the next Relic and its mini-quests. The player can navigate between unlocked artifacts by pressing or selecting certain buttons and the Relic icons on the Quest menu. The menu also tracks and displays the player's progress in percentage form; except for the Nintendo DS version of Bejeweled 3, this does not appear until the player reveals the fifth artifact.

Upon restoring all five Lost Relics of Bejeweled, a congratulatory cutscene plays in which a brief fireworks display occurs above the shrine. The game returns to the game menu afterward and then places a golden wreath around the crystal ball that represents Quest Mode, with a label on the wreath reading "100%".

In the PC, Mac, Nintendo DS, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 versions of Bejeweled 3, revealing the first Relic (by completing any four of its mini-quests) unlocks Diamond Mine.

Trivia

  • In the PC and Mac versions of Bejeweled 3, the Quest menu has an option that allows the player to close the game without having to do so from the main menu. This makes Quest the only game mode in said versions of Bejeweled 3 to have such a feature.
