- — Mouseover description from Bejeweled Blitz
A Multiplier Gem, also simply known as a Multiplier, is a type of gem that appears exclusively in Bejeweled Blitz. The multipliers run from x2 to x8. It is characterized by a basic gem with a perimeter of sparkly lines in the PC version or as a basic colored circle in the Facebook version. This increases the Score Multiplier when matched.
Multipliers are worth their value multiplied by 1,000; 2,000 for a x2, 3,000 for a x3 and so on up to 8,000 for x8, and the base value of a match under that multiplier. A x2 multiplier would earn the player at least 2,500 points, while a x3 multiplier would net the player a minimum of 3,750 points.
The base values do not take into consideration special gems; which multiply Flame Gem creations by a factor of two, Star Gem creations by three and Hypercube creations by 10, and adds on an extra 2000 - 8000 points for the multiplier's "bonus".
At the end of the game each Multiplier earned adds 100 coins to the player's coin balance.
The first multiplier appears after 12 or more gems are destroyed in one move. Additional multipliers are created after destroying 16 or more gems in a single move. The chance of a multiplier appearing after a big move gradually decreases as the multiplier increases.
- According to evidence found inside the game files of the PC version of Bejeweled Blitz, it seems that there was once a x9 Multiplier. This was possibly meant for the Cat's Eye before the PC edition was discontinued.
- If the player destroys two or more Multiplier Gems with a Rare Gem or Special Gem explosion, the Score Multiplier increases by one instead. This is more noticable when the player is playing on Daily Challenge.
