This is a list of secret codes that can be activated in Bejeweled 2. They are Easter eggs in which typing specific passwords while playing any game mode causes something to happen. Most of the codes only change the game visually, such as altering the colors and backgrounds in various ways. All the codes are not case sensitive; they activate regardless of how they are spelled but only if they are spelled correctly.
So far, the codes only seem to exist in the PC version of Bejeweled 2. It is currently unknown if they are featured in other versions of the game (ex. console). All secret codes don't appear in the mobile versions of Bejeweled 2 due to the scaled down version of the original game. The codes also exist in other regional versions of Bejeweled 2, and they can be enabled in those versions the same way as they can be in the English version.
The effects of almost every code can be disabled by simply entering their respective codes again or by entering NORMAL. Most codes can also be disabled by exiting the current game mode, and every code can be disabled by exiting the game altogether.
List of codes
Code | Effects | Image |
---|---|---|
NORMAL | Disables the effects of most codes by resetting the graphics. | |
NOFRAME | Hides the game board and most user interface elements. | |
OLDSKOOL | Replaces the graphics of the gems on the game board with their graphics from the original Bejeweled, when the game was known as Diamond Mine. | |
NETWORK | Replaces the background with a Matrix-like backdrop. | |
STARFIELD | Replaces the background with a scrolling space-themed backdrop of stars and a purple nebula. This particular background is actually very similar to the one featured in the final level of Zuma. | |
COLORSWAP | Changes the gem colors. Entering the code again changes the colors a second time. Entering the code once again reverts the gems to their original colors. | |
BLACKANDWHITE | Changes the colors of all the graphics to monochromatic hues. Entering the code again yields no further effect. | |
GREENSCREEN | Changes the colors of all the graphics to greenish hues. Entering the code subsequently darkens the colors each time. | |
AMBERSCREEN | Changes the colors of all the graphics to ambery hues. Entering the code subsequently darkens the colors each time. | |
XMAS | Replaces the background with one of the game's other backdrops (specifically the one featured in the puzzles of Ceti Alpha V) and produces snow that gently falls in the foreground. Entering NORMAL or the code again only ceases the snow; the only method to disable the code in-game is to enter a code that alters colors (for example, COLORSWAP) and then entering NORMAL. | |
NAUSEA | Adds a wave-like distortion effect to the background. | N/A |
SLOMO | Reduces the speed of gameplay. | N/A |
Notes
- Most of the codes can be combined with others in which it is possible to have the effects of various codes active at the same time.
- If GREENSCREEN is enabled while AMBERSCREEN is active, the effects of the entered code will override those of the previous code. The same also happens vice versa.
- While BLACKANDWHITE, GREENSCREEN, and AMBERSCREEN do not affect the background colors, the codes interestingly do with the cutscene and credits that are shown upon completing Puzzle mode.
- Nothing happens when COLORSWAP is enabled while BLACKANDWHITE is active.
- COLORSWAP changes the hues of the gems by -120.
- COLORSWAP does not change the gem colors of the Galaxy Map and ending cutscene in Puzzle mode.
- COLORSWAP can change the gem colors in more ways while either GREENSCREEN or AMBERSCREEN are active:
- If COLORSWAP is enabled while GREENSCREEN is active, the colors will be changed to dark red. Entering COLORSWAP again changes to colors to dark blue.
- If COLORSWAP is enabled while AMBERSCREEN is active, the colors will be changed to dark purple. Entering COLORSWAP again changes to colors to turquoise.
- If SLOMO is active during a game of Hyper, the speed of gameplay will be like that of the other game modes. However the game progress after using this code will not be saved although; the high score will be saved if the player manages to get one in this game mode while this code is disabled.
Trivia
- Bejeweled Twist contains a similar Easter egg in which Coals can be transformed into static heads of Snackers by entering SNACKERS and fulfilling other requirements.
- The codes "nausea" and "starfield" are also present in Insaniquarium, another game published by PopCap, as the codes "wavy" and "space" respectively.
- Typing "STARFIELD" will cause the background to blank up and stretch left due to the glitch. This glitches only occurs on the Arcade Machine version of Bejeweled 2.[1]
