Bejeweled Legend (Japanese: ビジュエルド伝説) is a discontinued tile match-3 mobile game in the Bejeweled series, developed by PopCap Games' Tokyo Studio, and published by Electronic Arts and LAND HO! Co. LTD,[1] where it was hosted on the GREE service, released exclusively in Japan.[2][3]

Bejeweled Legend features a pirate-expedition theme, where a male pirate leader leads his crew to defeat monsters using the power of gems. Bejeweled Legend gameplay plays similar to Bejeweled Blitz, with added features such as the ability to summon monsters, that alter the game board during play. The game was free to play, but also featured monetization features such as coin currency.

It was available to GREE users from its initial launch on June 5, 2012; until July 16, 2013, when its servers were shut down. The game has remained inaccessible following the game's discontinuation.

Overview[]

Note: Not much of this game is known due to the lack of gameplay footage and knowledge from the community. This overview has been analyzed from the trailer, so information may not be accurate.

Bejeweled Legend is a puzzle action game in the Bejeweled series. Unlike other games, which featured a medieval-fantasy theme, Bejeweled Legend features a pirate theme which features several characters including human and monster characters.

The game follows a male, muscular pirate character aided two crewmates, a parrot named Popo, and a supporting crew member named Kurea. They set sail to defeat several monsters using the power of gems.

The game appears to play similar to Bejeweled Blitz. One minute of time or more is given to score as many points as possible before time runs out. The game features the Blazing Speed bonus, Speed Bonus, Multipliers, Boosts and more. Several monster characters can be summoned, which clear several gems from the game board, each one having their own powers, such as the Werewolf character being able to generate Lightning/Star Gems at the start of the game, the Fire Dragon character being able to spawn Fire Gems on the board, and the Octopus character destroying gems with it's tentacles.

The game features boss stages, which involve depleting a vitality bar by detonating Special Gems.

Additional features include a worldwide ranking system and events. The worldwide ranking system displays up to 9999 people, however rankings can also be toggled to show friends only. Events took place throughout specific times of the game's lifespan.[4]

The game also features a Lucky Spin feature, similar to the Daily Spin feature in Bejeweled Blitz.

Release[]

The game was first teased around May 12, 2012, where pre-registration for the game opened.[5] The game was later announced and released on June 5, 2012, following a press announcement.

Discontinuation[]

On July 2013, GREE had announced that they would be discontinuing the services of Bejeweled Legend on July 16, 2013. Refunds were offered to those who purchased coins from the game.[6] The game's servers were shut down on July 16, 2013 at 3:00pm Japan time, rendering the game unplayable officially.
