So since I deleted my discord because I believe for that place to be extremely insecure, and getting worse with the amount of data breaches that are prominent, I'm going to explain some stuff about the 8th actual installment of Bejeweled within itself. And yes it is the actual 8th installment.
Even though I am mentioning an article that explains a well-written letter from Jason himself regarding Bejeweled 8, we'll actually contextualize it with the 8th installment of Bejeweled 4 fan game.
You all got a billion problems to face in regards to using even your own fan made gems, including other assets in previous titles. I know I said this on my reddit towards the pop cap and Bejeweled communities by posting the explanation, I'll just reinstate it here instead.
You're going to be facing some copyright issues from directly from electronic arts in the same fashion that Nintendo issues their copyright stuff. Electronic arts in today's age is never a fan of any fan games which is why dijeweled had to move as well for this reason.
Even though these projects might be available on GitHub, it does not mean you're going to get struck down by these megacorps. Even if your code is there with the images, they're not going to blame your code... Only your images.
And regardless if their fan-made gems, EA is going to look at it and literally put you down with copyright issues.
I don't want to stress this. I know some are already aware of this which is great, no problem there. But you guys have a much much bigger problem to deal with.
I have heard from various individuals that you can't use unity, you can't use game maker, even Coco's 2D/3D is proprietary. They have their own end user license agreement as well that you have to accept every time you install Coco's 2D or 3D.
Even worse all people of all things are going to be targeting SexyAppBase. The biggest problem with this is that me and another user are unfortunately holding the development lead for 1.40. it is going to be a long long ride with this library to be upgraded to the latest coding standards, getting rid of legacy code and updating it with modern stuff. This means getting rid of DirectX 7 and d3d7, and introducing 9 through 11 through various methods. The 1.30 and 1.34 releases, all base themselves on legacy code that has to be updated and we're trying to do it a timely fashion so you guys are going to have to wait a little bit longer if you want to use this library for your bj4 project. Because if you start targeting the library, this means you will also have to be coding the library alongside with me and the repo leader before you make the game.
I know this seems like an emergency message but this is a big Stark warning to those who want to make this game a living reality.
Oh and I was kind of a bit....not to say..
disrespected, but this is the second time nobody has notified me at all of this game let alone anything related to PopCap happenings, happening. I am a bit upset about it. So the consequence of that action led me to giving you guys the Bejeweled 2 headers and Zuma headers directly on my GitHub user page, and this is also because the lead developer of this bj4 project did not choose any authors to make the music for the game. He only chose one person and that was it, which represents a big bias here. I could have easily submitted my spiritual Network in that game to be noticed as a classic mode track too. Plus I have also made a whole bunch of sound effects in case of you all want to use those too. It sits in an archive folder my computer in case if you want to use it. They're slightly modified from audacity so this way there isn't much of a mimic from the older versions, even though some of them could be knocked on the door by EA themselves.
I wanted to provide some frankness in this regard it may sound a bit harsh to those who read this message, and I don't mean to offend anybody but I'm just saying my words here because I have played this game for more than 20 years since msn.com was introduced to me at age 5, via 2002.
So you can say that I'm about as old as Rubycored, a veteran so to speak. Even though I've had numerous troubles in this community which I've already explained even though I'm not saying them again, since it's not appropriate for the site, bottom line is most of this article should apply to those who make fan games that are still being made by other companies.
This has been an update for the following pretenses. I hope most on the site learn from this. If not, that's fine too...
Yalek the Lembine. Development lead for Sexyappbase's official repository.
